Joy on the Path: An Insight Dialogue Retreat
with Nicola Redfern
April 28-May 4, 2020

Barre Center for Buddhist Studies, Barre, MA

This retreat will be an experiential inquiry into the Seven Factors of Awakening, with a particular focus on the importance of joy, both as a fruit of practice, and also as an essential element of the path itself. Buddhist teachings often emphasize inquiry into suffering, hunger, clinging and relinquishment, which can appear rather austere. During this retreat we will also explore the true place of happiness and joy on our path of awakening, investigating together the internal conditions that block our deepest happiness as well as those conditions that allow for the emergence of a joyful tranquility and release not dependent on outer circumstances.  We will come together to practice silent meditation as well as Insight Dialogue, an interpersonal meditation practice that brings together mindfulness and concentration, the wisdom teachings of the Buddha and the power of relationship to support insight into the nature, causes and release of human suffering. This retreat welcomes both beginners and longtime Insight Dialogue practitioners; however there is a prerequisite of having sat one week long silent meditation retreat in order to enroll in this retreat.
